Family. Friends. Fireworks. And, 20,000+ Books of all kinds!

"Members-Only" Presale from 3-5 pm on July 3.

The traditional Fourth of July Friends' used book sale will, once again, kick off with a Members-Only presale from 3-5 pm inside the Wisner Center on July 3. All categories of books will be included in the presale. Remember to bring your membership card with you to expedite entry. If your membership has expired, you will be able to renew at the door.

Then, the "main event" will start a half hour earlier than last year at 8:00 am on July 4 and run until 3 pm both inside and outside the Wisner Center. We will have more books outside than last year (weather permitting). So, stop by before or after the parade and take a look at more than 20,000 books in all categories, as well as magazines, DVDs and CDs.

Beat the Heat and Come Indoors

Standing on 105-degree asphalt, trying to find the books you love, is not a way that most sane people like to spend their time. So, while we will still have an assortment of books displayed outside, we're once again moving many of our books into the air conditioned Wisner Center this year to help you beat the heat.

  • Pricing: $1 for hardcover books; $0.50 for paperbacks; books; $2 for oversized books; a bag of books for $10. Please note that, if you bring your own bag, it must be approximately the same size as the bags we provide. If you have an oversized bag--think "IKEA"--you will need to rebag the books at the checkout counter. So, please avoid delaying yourself and others. Children's books are half the price of adult books.
  • Open to All: You don't have to be a member to attend the July 4 sale. But, we will still have a membership table if you would like to support the library by becoming a friend or renewing an expiring membership.

Re-Stocking throughout the Sale

We will be continuously restocking the tables throughout the sale to make sure there are fresh and interesting choices for everyone. So, don't worry. If you can't make it to the sale early, chances are good there will still be some interesting titles for you to pick from.

Consider Volunteering

It Takes a Village.

An event this big has a lot of moving parts. And, the most important part is the people who volunteer their time to make it a success. If you've volunteered in the past, you know how much fun it is. If you haven't, this is your chance to find out and have a positive impact on your community at the same time.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES:

There are several different roles you can fill, and none of them requires a lot of experience.

-Cashier (cash): Responsible for taking cash payment from customers and making change when necessary.

-Cashier (charge): Responsible for using Square system to process credit card purchases. It's not complicated, and training will be provided.

-Tallyer: Responsible for calculating how much the buyer's purchase amounts to before the buyer makes payment to the cashier. Basic math skills are required.

-Floater: Responsible for keeping books organized on tables, helping restock tables, answering questions, and filling whatever other needs arise during the course of the sale.

-Set-Up/Clean-Up: Tables need to be moved and set up. Boxes of books need to be moved up from the basement and set up on the tables. Signs need to be displayed. And, everything gets reversed at the end of the sale. If you prefer to avoid lifting, just let us know.

VOLUNTEER TIMES:

We will need volunteers on July 3 to (a) set up the inside portion of the sale from 12-2 pm, (b) work the "members-only" sale from 3-5 pm, and (c) get things cleaned up after the sale and do pre-preparation for the July 4 sale from 5-6 pm.

On the 4th we will need even more volunteers, starting with the early birds to set up and then the rest of the crew for the sale followed by the clean-up contingent.

If you would like to volunteer...

Please provide the information requested below and hit "send." We will get back to you quickly. Thanks!
